Why We Love Vertical Blinds

We get it. Vertical blinds aren’t the sexiest window treatment. Often overlooked, often underappreciated, vertical blinds – while not the sexiest – are some of the most practical window treatments around.

What makes vertical blinds so practical and why do we love them? We’ll tell you why below…

  1. Perfect for Sliding Glass or Patio Doors
Finding a window covering for sliding glass doors or patio doors can prove to be difficult. Window coverings for sliding glass doors and patio doors need to open from side-to-side (just as the door does), and need to be durable and easy to clean since doors are usually higher traffic areas. In terms of window coverings that slide open, the options are somewhat limited. If you’re looking for a window covering that slides from side to side and offers louvers or vanes that can be tilted to allow various degrees of light in, then there’s really only one choice: vertical blinds. So when it comes to patio or sliding glass door window treatments, the product that will provide the best functionality and most versatility is a vertical blind.
  1. Ideal for Wide Windows
Finding window coverings for wide windows can also prove challenging. The majority of window treatments are operated in an up and down fashion, making the weight of a blind or shade a primary concern. At a certain weight a blind or shade will simply be too heavy to be lifted. The larger the window treatment, the heavier it will be. Consequently, windows that are either very wide or very tall will be difficult to cover with one shade. The side-to-side operation of a vertical blind makes it such that weight is not a concern. Vertical blinds are able to cover windows as large as 12’ x 10’ using one headrail. A window of this size would require multiple blinds or shades if any other product beside a vertical blind were used. When it comes to window treatments for wide windows, vertical blinds are the best solution.
  1. Easy to Clean
Any vinyl window treatment will be a breeze to clean. Whether it’s a vinyl shutter or vinyl vertical blinds, cleaning shouldn’t require much more than a damp cloth (and a minimal amount of elbow grease). If you elect to go with a vertical blind with fabric vanes as opposed to vinyl vanes, cleaning will be a little more difficult. That said, due to their design, vertical blinds don’t typically accumulate dust and dirt in the same way that standard, horizontal blinds or shades do.
  1. Affordability
Vertical blinds are one of the most affordable window coverings. If you’re looking at comparable products – such as a roller shade panel track system, a woven wood panel track system, or a cellular shade vertical slider – vertical blinds will be priced substantially lower. Even if you’re considering using vertical blinds for a standard window (and not a sliding glass or patio door), they’ll still be one of the most affordable options on the board.

So there you have it! That’s why we love vertical blinds. If you’ve fallen in love with vertical blinds too, contact a local Skandia dealer for a free in home consultation.
