Are window coverings safe and do they pose strangulation risks?

Skandia Window Fashions has been very proactive in developing innovative solutions that reduce the risk of strangulation. Many of our products offer cord-free solutions that entirely eliminate the risk of strangulation. Our cellular shade collection, roller shade collection, and shutter line all feature products that are compatible with cordless systems. In fact, these product lines have received Best for Kids certification by the Window Coverings Manufacturing Association. Products with cords come with a safety tensioner device, that when properly installed keeps cords tight to the wall- drastically reducing the risk of strangulation. However, there is an inherent risk any time that cords are present. As such, we strongly recommend that homeowners with children purchase only cordless window coverings.
